13 - Work smarter, not harder

In a classic case of "You should have listened to yourself" my intent to hand cut the scarf joints got stopped pretty fast.

As I write this, it's 30 degrees and 60% humidity, yesterday it was 70% humidity. Welcome to summer 2021/2022. We have just had a week of wet weather, some flooding out west at Inglewood and heading towards Goondiwindi, Mungindi. Good rain for some but floods are more interesting.

Anyway, knowing that I will lots of scarfing joints to cut, I stopped hand cutting them after only getting halfway through 2 joints. I was going to hand mark, cut and trim them all. well my body decided to tell me to stop, my saws were not behaving and I took another look at the shooting board. No one is going to care if I hand cut the scarfed joints.

I whip out the nail gun, the PVA glue and I nail a backing board on the shooting board and I then attach it to the drop saw with 2 clamps to keep it in place.

I guess I was overcomplicating the whole thing. That jig has let me cut all the joints and all are at the same angle. Problem solved.

also it helps to have a wide enough garage. I dont so i had to open the door to fit the long bits in.

I also had a bit of ripping of timber from 30mm to 26 so that the screws I have will embed themselves a bit deeper.
